I took some random pictures of my girl this weekend just because I love taking her picture. After looking at them I can't help but wonder where my baby went...she is too grown up for me even when she is posing with her favorite My little Ponies.
We also added a new pet to the family. Her name is Hammy and she is a black bear hamster. We gave our dog away a month or so ago to save my sanity and the hamster was the item traded for. We are hoping she does well and doesn't get sick like my nephew's poor hamsters do. He is on hamster # 5 and #6 already and only started buying them about 4 weeks ago. Because of this we have a strict no touching policy in place since we are told they need at least 2 weeks to acclimate without feeling stressed. Any advice for raising a hamster let me know!

let them settle for a few days to get used to the noises and surroundings - after that, have an adult handle them frequently unto they become accustomed to being handled. Once it is obvious they are comfortable, allow the child to handle them gently. It is a long process, but worth it in the end.
Keep them OUT OF DRAFTS or out of in front of windows during winter.
Before purchasing any hamster you should observe it in the store. Check for discharge from eyes, nose or rear end. Never buy a hamster that has any type of discharge from those locations. Also never buy a hamster that you physcially see with your own eyes bite or attack another hamster or human being.
I worked in a pet store for over a year and if there was ONE animal in the store that i CHOSE not to handle, it was the hamsters....they are EVIL little bastards (pardon my french) i never handled a hamster that didn't bite me, pee on me or poop on me. And heaven forbid you drop the suckers...they run for the smallest crack they can find! Bye bye Mr Hamster!
It takes time and patience and good breeding to keep a hamster for a long time.
Personally, i would recommend rats as pets. They are hardier, more social, love people and DON'T BITE!!! i know this because we have two of them ;)
